Embrace the Divinity of Your Humanity
From a resident of Connecticut:
Q: What is the “human and divine coincidence?”
A: Omni-presence defines—yes, demands—“the human and divine coincidence.” Why? Because the human and divine can never be two; they are eternally one. To have the human and the divine is to have duality, which prevents conscious spiritual living.
Let us never…put a mental separation
between our divinity—that is, actuality—
and our humanity
because of the paralyzing results to us.¹
— Martha Wilcox
The in-dwelling presence of God, the Christ—perhaps known to Jesus as Shechinah—is the I AM that I AM, and the I AM that you are.
For years I have pondered this enigmatic statement:
The human is human because it is divine.²
— Margaret Laird
My first practical ‘glimpse’ of the human and divine coincidence came as I walked on a treadmill overlooking the track at our rec center. Two men were running around the track. But I didn’t ‘see’ them as two human bodies moving through time and space; rather, they appeared to be lively models of consciousness in motion. I was not surprised at this viewpoint because Spiritual Science, as well as quantum physics, shows that divine Mind—consciousness—is all there is.
With God’s primal declaration to make man(ifestation) in the divine ‘image and likeness,’ we can say that the human and divine coincidence is baked in from ‘the beginning.’ It is inescapable.
It is said that:
Every healing...
demonstrates the coincidence
of the human and divine.³
— Jamae van Eck
While healing inevitably comes at the point where the human seems to ‘touch’ the divine and appears transformed by it, it is important to remember that in reality, the human and divine coincidence is not something to be achieved. Rather, it is to be consciously lived. To be practical, it must be our conscious identity. We are made in the ‘image and likeness’ of the Divine.
Here are some words of wisdom that inspire and remind me to consciously be what I AM:
I identify my awareness
[as divine Mind],
the cosmic administrator,
the creative impulse of self-referral
evolutionary activity, the silent witness,
creative intelligence in action,
the omni-acting bestower of
the crystal clear resplendent glory
of the fullness of Life.⁴
— commentary on Rig Veda I.I.I
attributed to Maharishi Vedic Science
God is my Mind and yours.
There is but one Mind.⁵
— attributed to Mary Baker Eddy
God doesn’t have intelligence —
God is intelligence.⁶
— Expressions of Joy
That field of divine intelligence
is [our] own functioning intelligence.⁷
— teaching from Maharishi Vedic Science
In [divine] Science, it can never be said
that [we have] a mind of [our] own,
distinct from God, the all Mind. ⁸
— Mary Baker Eddy
We have declared
an omnipresent God long enough—
the time is here for us
to prove this Omnipresence.
Tennyson wrote, ‘Closer is God than breathing,
and nearer than hands and feet.’
Can you conceive of God
being any closer than
the discovery that
divine Mind is your own Consciousness? ⁹
— Vivian May Williams (italics is in the original)
We must interpret ourselves
as true consciousness
rather than as a corporeality being conscious.
It is most important
to maintain our thought
as the conscious identity of divine Mind.¹⁰
— Martha Wilcox
The Christ-consciousness is your consciousness.¹¹
— Bicknell Young
Let this Mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 2:5 KJV
(emphasis added)
I AM THAT
THOU ART THAT
ALL THIS IS THAT
THAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS¹²
— The Upanishads
I AM THAT.
I AM!
— inspired by Exodus 3:14
Every human thought
must turn instinctively
to the divine Mind
as its sole centre and intelligence.
Until this be done,
[one] will never be found
harmonious and immortal.¹³
— Mary Baker Eddy
If we understood that
the consciousness that we now are,
reflects or shows forth
the one and only consciousness,
then our consciousness is true.
But if we believe
that we are a personality,
and include a consciousness of our own,
then our consciousness is false.¹⁴
— Martha Wilcox
[Growing from] the belief that we are a person
with the faculty of awareness
to the understanding that we are awareness itself...
has enormous implications
for any individual
and for the evolution of humanity as a whole.
…I would suggest
that this is the next evolutionary step,
…upon which the survival of humanity
as we know it depends.¹⁵
— Rupert Spira
...Man[ifestation] is what [it] is—
the conscious identity of Good—
and nothing can change that fact.¹⁶
— Margaret Laird
I am indivisibly One
and thus am universally All
by way of ceaseless reflection.
Reflection [is] total Self-recognition.
It is the key to everything.¹⁷
— Richard Booker
In summary, God isn’t the best or highest presence, power, and consciousness—God is the only presence, power, and consciousness. The human and divine coincidence illustrates the Oneness of God and God’s image.
Ever need an embrace?
Embrace the divinity
of your humanity!
